While at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco earlier this year I came across the Daylight Studios Booth. Their booth focused on their latest game in development Holy Potatoes! A Weapon Shop?! It’s a satirical game mixing pop culture and weapon smithing in a potato world. I recently got to play the Beta…and it was amazing!
In HolyPotatoes! A Weapon Shop ?! you manage a weapon shop and have potatos smiths work at your shop forging the weapons! In this world you aren’t the hero, you make the weapons for the heroes! They depend on you and your potato smiths to create the weapons they need to vanquish evil and whatever other things heroes need weapons for!! The game has sort of a Harvest Moon feel and once you get pass the funny and enjoyable tutorial the game becomes quite addictive. While covered in hilarious potatoness the game requires you to really maximize time management and decide which heroes you want to sell your weapons to for max profit. You can also send your potato smiths out to explore different areas and do research to create new weapon designs. But like a real business your potato smiths have a morale and that effects the quality of their work, so you’ll also need to manage keeping them happy!
As you grow you weapon shop’s renown you will be able to manage and train 30 potato smiths, customize and enhance your workshop equipment as well as upgrading your shop, and you’ll also encounter random events and weather conditions. This is a truly fantastic, cute and hilarious game…like I actually LOL (like actually out loud) while playing the game. The game got greenlit in 7 days on Steam! Holy Potatoes! A Weapon Shop?! is set to launch July 10, 2015 and will be available through steam for PC and Mac. I definitely hope you check it out, I know you won’t be disappointed!
